Reusing Industrial Loft Buildings for Housing: Experiences of New York City in Revitalization and Misuse

Abstract

This Article examines the combination of pressures that caused conversions of industrial space to residential use, considers the effects of conversion on a city that depends upon its industrial tenants, and explores the reasons conversions went unregulated for so long. The Article concludes with an evaluation of New York's response to the problem-its loft program.
